The Commissioning Process
Step 1
Request
Determine what the music is for. Consider performance venue, likely audience, planned instrumentation, and skill level of your band.
The three most common commissions through Music for Use are:
- Competitive Marching Band Arrangements/Compositions
- Music for Developing Concert Band
- Parade Band Arrangements/Compositions
Step 2
Collaborate
After determining the type of commission and making a request, a Music for Use composer/arranger will contact you with a price quote and planned timeline for the project. Each Music for Use commission involves direct input from you and your ensemble; you choose the level of involvement you would like with the music!
Step 3
Rehearse and Perform
The completed commissioned work will be submitted to you digitally according to your project timeline. During subsequent rehearsals, you have the option of making further requests for modifications to the music on a limited basis. Your performance will be promoted as a Music for Use premiere on the Music for Use website.
Following the performance, your music will be made available to others via the Music for Use online portfolio.
